Orchid Doctor Grand Opening! Welcome to our very first issue of Orchid RX! This free news- letter and the Orchid Doctor website is our way of sharing our love of the orchid with you. Our goal for this newsletter and the Orchid Doctor website is twofold: 1) we will provide our friends and customers with only the highest quality orchid supplies and care products. From decorative orchid pots, our premium Off mix (fir bark), spiral supports and orchid food. You will not find an endless catalog of “catch all” orchid supplies here- sorry if that’s what you are looking for. 2) We want to be a valuable resource, for beginners and the experienced alike, for furthering their orchid knowledge and each month in Orchid RX, we will confront issues of plant care such as healthy growth, forcing a bloom, fertilization, pest control and many other topics of interest. We will have a question of the month from you, our customers and friends, because this is your newsletter. Orchid Doctor itself will constantly expand Orchid U as an exciting and useful forum for orchid education. We need your help with this. Please feel free to contact us anytime with your questions and comments, products you would like to see… anything. Thank you for letting us serve you as we wish you happy shopping and healthy learning at Orchid Doctor!

Tip of the Month: As autumn season approaches, and the nights become cooler, try placing your favorite phalaenopsis or other orchid in front of a cracked window. Many species of orchids love this change in temperature from daytime to nighttime and require the cold to initiate their buds into bloom.

Question of the Month Question: What is the benefit to using a humidity tray and how do I use it properly? Answer: A humidity tray creates a micro-climate that imitates its natural habitat. Humidity will increase flower size and adds more vibrant colors. Humidity also provides moisture to aerial roots and leaves providing greater overall health to your orchid.
Whether you use a dish with stones or an actual humidity tray, keep water level half full at all times, never allowing the plant to sit in water. Remember to clean stones regularly to cut down on algae growth.
